Etihad Airways is the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, and the second-largest airline in that region (after Emirates). Founded in 2003, its main hub is located at Abu Dhabi International Airport. It has a fleet of over 120 Airbus and Boeing aircraft, operating flights to more than 120 destinations throughout the Middle East, Africa, Europe, the Americas and the Asia-Pacific region. Etihad is rated as a five-star airline by Skytrax.
Etihad offers Economy, Business and First Class travel, with a number of different fare types in both Economy and Business class, allowing passengers to tailor their flights according to their needs and budget. Economy Class includes Deal, Saver, Classic and Flex options, and Business Class includes Saver, Classic and Flex options. There is even a three-room suite called The Residence available on the Airbus A380 – the only suite of its kind on a commercial airline. A range of in-flight entertainment options is available in every class of flight. Etihad’s four-tier frequent flyer service is called Etihad Guest and offers members a number of benefits, rewards and offers.
Etihad’s checked baggage allowance varies depending on your travel class, destination and type of flight. However, the general allowance ranges between one piece of luggage up to 23kg in Economy Class to two pieces up to 32kg each in First Class. Etihad Guest members may be entitled to extra baggage allowances.
Excess baggage charges apply for items exceeding the specified weight limit, as well as additional items exceeding the piece limit for each flight. These charges vary according to your flight destination and the manner in which you purchase the allowance (online, over the phone or at the airport). Excess baggage that is pre-purchased online or over the phone receives a discounted rate.
Bags may be upgraded to a 32kg weight limit at a fee ranging between $59USD and $120USD. Allowance for additional 23kg bags may be purchased at a rate ranging between $88USD and $350USD. Allowance for an additional 32kg bag ranges from $175USD to $400USD. On certain flights, excess baggage must be purchased in 5kg increments, ranging from $48USD for an extra 5kg to $420SD for an extra 35kg.
As you can see, excess baggage with Etihad has the potential to become quite an expensive addition. Furthermore, excess baggage allowance is offered only on a space-available basis, meaning that your baggage may not be able to be transported on the same flight as you. However, there is another option for transporting your excess items: an air cargo service, such as the one offered by PACK & SEND.
An air cargo service is a great option if you find yourself with too many items to transport home after your travels. Pack & Send’s air cargo option offers high-class, reliable service, ensuring peace of mind for the safety and security of your goods. It also involves an affordable fixed price, allowing you to avoid the unwelcome surprise of extra ancillary charges that may be incurred through airline excess baggage services.
