So you’ve chosen the right box, filled it with appropriate cushioning material, and are ready to seal up your package.
Heed our advice and don’t skimp on the tape!
You simply must use the right type of tape to seal your parcels. Anything less could leave your parcel at risk of opening up along the transport journey. The last thing you want is your box contents spilling out inside a truck or freight depot because of the wrong taping.
When using a corrugated cardboard box, the closure must be sealed with 48mm (or wider) pressure sensitive plastic packaging tape. Apply three strips (3 layers) of this tape along the flaps, across the whole length of the box. Allow at least 50mm extra overhang on each end, and affix to the sides of the box. Do this to both the top and bottom of the box. For even more secure sealing, apply tape across the outer edges of the flaps as well.
Don’t be tempted to use just any old tape you might have on hand.
Don't even think about using masking tape, cellophane tape, scotch tape, sticky tape, or duct tape. And definitely don't try to seal your box with string or paper over-wrap.
If you're sending in a wooden crate or case, the best way to seal it up tight is to use screws. Nails are another option, however nails ar much harder to remove on the receiving end, and there is a greater chance of damaging the crate (or the contents) in the process of prying it open. When screws are used, it's much easier to reuse the case again some time in the future.
Once firmly closed & sealed, ensure correct labeling is applied to complete the process (we'll detail this in part 4 of this blog series).
